Call for Papers

The African Public Relations Association (APRA) will be having its annual conference in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania May 23-27 with the theme ‘Africa’s Resilience & Global Competitiveness: The Challenge for Public Relations’. Based on this, some sub-themes have been identified to enable potential speakers to choose areas in which they may wish to make in-depth presentations.

This year’s conference will be exploring the tenacity and dodginess of Africa through the pandemic and post Covid-19 while addressing Africa’s competitive advantage in the global space and how public relations can leverage Africa’s rightful position on the global stage.

Presenters/speakers are expected to discuss compelling topics related to Resilience, strategic positioning, Africa’s competitive advantage, crisis management, activism, political and leadership management pre and post pandemic, security awareness, Africa’s health communication, social responsibility, self-regulation and a heightened focus on global governance initiatives and competitiveness for Africa’s advantage.

You may wish to consider any of the listed subject areas for your presentation as many of our members are regularly confronted with such issues in the discharge of their professional responsibilities. The list is not exhaustive, and other suggestions within the context of the theme and sub-theme are welcome.

  • Africa’s Resilience in the global landscape
  • Driving good governance with PR
  • Managing Crisis in Africa Through Public Relations
  • Repositioning Africa through Public Relations
  • Value inspirations for Africa
  • Africa’s Competitive advantage in the global space
  • Research as a tool for positioning Africa’s resilience stories
  • Case studies of application, involvement or deployment of public relations strategies to address socio-economic development issues in Africa
  • The influence of new media and technology pre and post pandemic on Africa’s economy and political landscape.

We invite members to choose topics that best suit their areas of specialization as well as to nominate speakers for the above sub-themes based on the stated guidelines below.

Guidelines
  • Potential speakers are expected to submit an abstract of not more than 250 words or less not later than Thursday March 10, 2022.
  • Abstracts will be assessed after the closing date and notifications will be sent to selected speakers on Friday March 25, 2022.
  • Actual presentations should be submitted within a month to the conference date latest Friday April 22, 2022.
  • All abstracts must carry the subject line – APRA 2022 – Abstract – Any submission without the subject line will be lost.
  • The paper/presentation in power point must clearly reflect the issues, challenges, public relations techniques or trends engaged. The use of videos, sound bites and infographics is encouraged to aid audience engagement during the presentation.
  • All submissions are to be accompanied by a brief profile of 100 words and a photograph saved with the name of the presenter.
  • All submissions should be made to apracoordinator@afpra.org
